With crimes against the person on the rise, and law enforcement and emergency services at almost every level having to lay off personnel due to budget cuts, it is now more important than ever for individual citizens to have a basic knowledge of how not to be a victim, how to help in an emergency, and how to protect themselves and their loved ones if an unavoidable situation arises. Just living inside a "safe" community or having an alarm system is not always enough as we have recently seen in the news. There have been home invasions, drop houses, and meth labs found in what are considered the lowest crime, "safe" communities.
At Discovery, we are taking a proactive approach to this increasing problem by offering affordable safety products and hands on training to individuals, organizations, and communities, who wish to get certifications in personal protection and safety at home, work, and traveling abroad.

Arizona state DPS CCW certification to carry your handgun concealed: This is an informative one day class that gives a candidate their CCW training certificate to turn into DPS for a candidates Arizona state concealed carry license and a frameable Discovery certificate to show professional training. This course prepares a student to understand using a handgun for personal protection, liability issues, civil & criminal laws that affect them, levels of reasonable force, safe gun handling and storage, and range qualification. Student must bring a legal handgun, safety glasses, and 100 rounds of ammunition. The classroom portion is taught in an airconditioned classroom. The range may be indoor or outdoors. Candidates will be told prior to class where they are to train. If a candiadte is not familiar with a handgun, they will be required to take NRA basic pistol first. A CCW is for personal protection and does not authorize a candidate to work armed. If you are required to carry on the job you must get the Armed guard certification. EFR - Emergency first responder: Get certified in CPR, AED (defibrillator), and basic first aid. We teach you hands on proper techniques, use of AED equipment, liability issues, laws, & regulations, and sign off on the EFR training certifications. Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) Course Content Primary Care (CPR) Protection in the home: Emergency First Response Workplace AED Covers injuries or illnesses that are not immediately life threatening. Participants focus on secondary assessment and first aid. Personal Protection & Safety Classes
Our Academy and all of our instructors have extensive personal protection and safety backgrounds and are AZ DPS approved, NRA certified, and EFR certified to teach our courses. We carefully hand pick our instructors for their outstanding ability and background to meet our teaching standards.
At Discovery all of our instructors must teach interactively, with enthusiasm, and knowledge of their topic. It is our guarantee we will not just read to you or make you watch videos. We want you to learn your topic well and retain it so it will come naturally to you should you need it.
Basic Pistol: teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This course is 12 - 14 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, two handed and one handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive course completion certificate after they pass the Basics of Pistol Shooting Examination.
NRA certified Personal Protection in the home: Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. The NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course participants must be law abiding, adults (at least 21 years old), and experienced shooters. If you can not show certification you will need to take Basic Pistol first.
Pepper Spray & Taser: Training to learn the proper use in personal defense situations as well as the laws regarding it's use. We teach this class together because the laws, use of force, and techiques are similar. You get to try both out and decide which is best or you.
Teaches participants how to respond to life-threatening emergencies. The course focuses on

We researched self protection products and their manfactureres to hand pick the ones we would personally recommend and carry for our customers and clients. They offer a deterrent to bad guys and are a good first line of defense that allows you to get away from a bad situation and get help. We like the original MACE brand best. It uses a combination of OC pepper and tear gas.

We like the original Taser brand the best. The new C2 personal protection device is small, about the size of a dollar bill, and it easily conceals in a purse or can be carried on a belt clip. It additionally has a stun device should you find yourself to close to shoot the Taser, scaring an assailant and giving you time to get away or to fire the Taser and get away.
